The BNF/PNP FPV Drone Revolution!

The sport of FPV racing has come a long way in the last few years and pilots are welcoming new technology and products to make the sport even better. It was not long ago when BNF and PNP FPV drones were expensive and/or didn’t perform as well as most custom-built quads.

A new era is upon us and it’s all about great FPV drones at a reasonable price (some might even say cheap!). Below we list some of the best FPV quads on the market today along with their basic specifications. The drones listed below met the following criteria to make the list:

  • Wheelbase between 200mm and 250mm

Best All-Purpose BNF/PNP FPV Drone

EMAX Hawk 5

Hawk 5

EMAX has a new BNF FPV quad on the market and they are sticking it to the competition with all of the quality parts packed into the EMAX Hawk 5 for $250. Not only is the Hawk 5 full of quality parts, it also has one of our favorite designs.

It all centers around the EMAX Magnum Tower which includes an EMAX Bullet 4-in-1 ESC. This tower system, in combination with the Foxeer Arrow Micro V2 and slick frame design, allows for a very clean setup. It still seems odd to see full-size quads without ESCs on the arms! Finally, the motors are the new “bottom-less” Lite Spec 2206 motors and sport the touted AVAN Flow props.

The EMAX Hawk 5 is our favorite pick for a multipurpose FPV drone and won’t break the bank at $250!

Best Specifications

Diatone GT-R530 (X or Stretch-X)

Diatone GT-R530

Throw your favorite receiver on this FPV racing beast and you’ll be ready to rip through any course. We are really surprised by the specifications of this drone coming in at the $230 price point. The GT-R530 (and GT-M530) sport high quality parts from the Fury F3S flight controller to the TBS Unify VTx.

When compared to the other drones in the list, it’s impressive that the weight (without battery) is only 220 grams. Especially considering it comes with 2306 2450KV motors. The combination of a lightweight build with these powerful motors is sure to meet the performance requirements of most FPV drone pilots.

Overall, the Diatone GT-R530 is one of the top quads on the market as far as specifications are concerned. It is noteworthy that the 2306 2450KV motors may be too much for pilots that are just looking for an everyday flyer. The 2306 motors are meant for performance, but flight times are likely to be shorter than quads with 2205/2206 motors. If you are looking for performance without the hassle of building your next racing drone, the Diatone GT-R530 is for you!

Best Ultra-Budget-Friendly BNF/PNP FPV Drone

Furibee Stormer 220

Furibee Stormer 220

The Stormer 220 is one of Furibee’s latest offerings in the sub $150 range. It is the first with 2308 motors, which is an upgrade from their 2205/2206 offerings. The design of the Stormer 220 is pretty slick, but we still aren’t sure we like the large influx of pink drones that are showing up on the market.

Who knows, maybe there is a “real men fly pink drones” movement in the works! Joking aside, the Stormer 220 makes a convincing case for being your first quad or just a backup fun-flying quad.
